BSEB to introduce new exam patterns, dummy admit cards in board exams

BSEB will follow a new pattern for the matriculation or Class 10 board examinations and intermediate or Class 12 exams to be held in 2018, a top official said on Monday.

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) will follow a new pattern for the matriculation or Class 10 board examinations and intermediate or Class 12 exams to be held in 2018, a top official said on Monday.

The board’s chairperson Anand Kishor announced that the exams in the 2017-18 session will be conducted on the new patterns with more objective type questions so that students can score higher marks.

“With this pattern, we expect that highest score could cross 90% resulting in good cutoffs in higher studies,” Kishor said.

Under the new pattern, 50% questions will be multiple choices questions (MCQ), the rest will consist of some short answer questions of two marks and long answer questions of five marks each.

Kishor said students will get 15 MCQs and out of which they will have to attempt any 10 compulsorily. In short answer questions, there will be 100% extra options to choose from. For example, out of 10 questions, students will have to attempt any five. In long answer questions, there will be one option each with every question.

This pattern will also be followed in numerical questions in mathematics and science papers. In language papers, questions can be of more than five marks which will generally include essays and comprehensions type of questions.

The intermediate pre-boards or sent-up exams will begin from November 14 and the main theory exam will begin from February 6. Pre-boards for matriculation will begin on November 27 and the main theory exam will start on February 21. The practical exam for intermediate and matriculation will begin on January 11 and January 22, respectively.

Schools will be asked to conduct the sent-up exams on the revised patterns so that the students get an idea about the types of questions. Model papers for the exam with the revised pattern will also be uploaded on the website of the board before the sent-ups.

“The samples of new patterns will be uploaded on biharboard.ac.in on November 1 for intermediate examination while for matric examinations it will be uploaded on November 7. The model papers for intermediate and matriculation examination will be uploaded on November 10 and 15, respectively,” Kishor said.

A dummy admit card will also be issued in December before the issuance of final admit cards so that any error in them could be corrected in the final one.

“Students can get their dummy admit cards from their respective schools from where they have filled their forms. Any errors in the dummy admit card will be corrected if the applicant through the school principal notifies the board about the errors. This way, there will be no error in the final admit card,” Kishor said.

A BSEB periodical magazine Vidya’ is also all set to be launched anytime in the coming weeks this month.

The school board has been hit by merit list scandals, involving students who aced the state board exams but fudged their age and could not come up with answers to even the most basic of questions.

Scrambling to salvage the situation, the BSEB introduced a physical verification process from this year for Class 10 toppers, cross-checking their age, interviewing them, and reevaluating their answer sheets.
