SIT constituted to probe into alleged misuse of scholarship fund

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 13 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has decided to temporarily suspend the ongoing phase-wise protest in connection with the Post Matric Scholarship issue after Nagaland Government ordered a probe into alleged misuse of funds under the scholarship.

A letter issued by the Nagaland Chief Secretary, Pankaj Kumar to the ENCSU informed that the State Government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IGP (INT) on misuse of fund under Post Matric Scholarship for the students under Ministry of Tribal Affairs and directed that the report should be submitted within a period of 2 (two) weeks.

The letter also informed that an amount of Rs 13,44 crores received from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India as well as 10% state share of Rs 1.49 crores have been released to the Director of Higher Education for disbursement to the students and the matter for further sanction being pursued with the Government of India.

Earlier in the day, a poster campaign was launched in Dimapur by the ENCSU with the support of the Dimapur Eastern Naga Students’ Union (DENSU) and Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) by putting up banners at several prominent landmarks in the town.

Meanwhile, the ENCSU urged the State Government and the department to work out for the early release of scholarship in full amount and the same be released on or before November 30, 2017 immediately after the investigation report is submitted by the SIT within the stipulated time frame given by the Cabinet.

The Union also demanded that the defaulting officer(s) should be punished as per the Service Rule and the Law of the land. The Union further demanded that the report of the SIT should be published in all the print media.

Further, the ENCSU also demanded the Government that two members from the ENCSU be included in the SIT in order to maintain transparency and to conduct fair investigation so that no rooms are left for doubt or suspicion.

The Union also expresses gratitude to all the federating units of ENCSU, Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD), Highway Sumi Students’ Union (HSSU), Chakhro Angami Kuda Students’ Union (CAKSU), Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) and all the volunteers from different colleges across the state who backed and supported the ENCSU physically and morally irrespective of jurisdiction and affiliation while fighting for justice.
