How to Score Better in GS I – Paper II of UPSC Mains Exam

General Studies Paper II is one of the dynamic papers of the UPSC IAS Mains Exam; require an aspirant to study this paper empirically. Particularly this paper looks complex but not a difficult nut to crack. An aspirant with better understanding of questions asked in each section can perform better in this paper.  The IAS Main Examination is being to start from 18 December 2015 and as I mentioned in my articles that the candidates need to be more focussed at this stage. Now at this point of time, it is more difficult to cover entire syllabus rather they should follow a proper strategy to maximise their performance in the UPSC Main Examination 2015. A candidate should ignore their traditional way of learning and they should make analysis the marks once obtained by the All India Toppers last year. The following points should be in mind at this stage:

A. A Proper Revision: An aspirant should revise the topics which he/she had studied earlier. Do not try to run behind the new topics and new notes. Some students also try to get some current affair’s topics during last leg of preparation which may prove as a waste of time.

B. Improve Writing Skills: Try to remember and write down the bullet points of the topics which you have covered already will enhance your level of confidence and writing skills. A proper structure or format of writing answers could be possible only when a candidate have done practice before entering into the examination hall.

C. Make Outline of the Topic: Before attempting the topic, a candidate should make outline of the whole topic which he/she is going covered in their answer.

D. Put Clear Views: While attempting to write an answer, your views should reflect a clear understanding of the topic and try to put your own remedies for that. An examiner would never like to challenge your understanding of complex theories, so approach should be to write what has been asked in the question instead of writing how much you know about the topic.

E. A Proper Connectivity: A proper connectivity of different points and issues you raised should be there in your answer. The prescribed remedies of those issues should also be there in your answer before summing up your answer.

F. Do not chase for Facts and Figures: As per the pattern of the UPSC IAS Mains Exam, there is no need to remember the facts and figures. It is better to use diagrams in support of your views avoid putting facts and figures. This will make your answer more attractive and there lies a good chance to get good marks.

G. Do not Avoid any Question in which you are blank: If you are not able to find out the exact clue about any question, it’s better to read the question again and again and follow your commonsensical approach to write the answer.

H. Do not get biased with your views: It is important to keep yourself unbiased while writing answers. Any unbiased approach of putting views may impact negative on the examiner. Always try to write pros and cons in with prescribed conclusion may look different from the answers of others.

Through this article, our emphasis is to provide better guidelines to those who are appearing for the time or those who missed their chance to perform better in their previous attempts. Sincere efforts will surely work out for the aspirants who followed a better strategies and study plan throughout their preparation.
