In view of high levels of pollution in the Millennium City, the district administration on Thursday announced a slew of measures, including declaring holiday for schools for two days and intensifying public transport.

Making an announcement, Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said all private and government schools will remain closed on November 10-11, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Haryana Roadways were directed to increase the number of trips to reduce traffic on roads.

All brick kilns, hot-mix plants and stone crushers have also been shut down till further orders and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram directed to carry out mechanised sweeping and sprinkling of water on road stretches with high dust generation.

Heaters for security staff

The Residents’ Welfare Associations and house owners have been directed to provide electric heaters to security staff during winters to avoid open burning. The use of coal/fire wood has also been banned in hotels and open eateries. The residents are advised to use Swachhta app to report cases of burning of garbage and special teams constituted for enforcement. The police have been directed to keep strict vigil on vehicles visibly causing pollution and enforce strict enforcement of PUC norms.

The MCG and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board have been directed to strictly enforce rules for control dust caused due to construction activities and impose fines.
