How to become a pilot: Civil Aviation or Commercial Pilot

A commercial pilot is a pilot who flies a certain type of an aircraft for an airline. The license for becoming a pilot is given by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Eligibility:

Interested candidates must have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as their subject. In case of different subjects, the candidates must study any two of the previously mentioned subjects from the National Institute of Open Schooling to start their training course.In order to join a flying school, candidates must have scored a minimum of 50% in class 12 and the minimum age to apply for a commercial pilot license is 18 years.

Steps:

Enroll in a Flying School and pursue a B.Sc. in Aviation. Candidates may note that, admission will be given after they clear the written examination, pilot aptitude test, personal interview and medical examination.

Obtain a Student Pilot License.It is only after finishing 250 flying hours that a candidate is eligible to apply for a CPL or Commercial Pilot License. More details are given on the link given here.

How to become a pilot: Indian Defense Force

If you want to become a pilot but do not have enough financial aid, you can become a pilot in the Indian Defense Forces and even get paid for your training.

National Defense Academy:

The National Defense Academy, NDA trains interested candidates over a period of 3 years before commissioning them as a Permanent Commission Officer. It should be noted that only male candidates between the age of 16 to 19 years are eligible to apply. In order to get admitted to the NDA, candidates will have to give a written examination which will test them on their knowledge of various subjects. The written exam is followed by an Interview.

Pilot Aptitude Test:

If a candidate takes this test once and fails, he is not eligible to test for the flying branch again. It consists of written and machine tests to evaluate the candidates.The minimum height required for males is 162.5 cms and for women is 148 cms with correlated weight. Vision should be 6/6 foe one eye and 6/9 for the other.
