Looking for open and distance learning colleges? UGC recognizes new higher education institutes

f you are planning to complete your higher education through open and distance learning courses then it must a good news for aspirants as the University Grants Commission has recognised 14 new Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) for providing courses through distance education.

This new edition has been made to the list of 82 institutions which were recognised by the UGC in May 2019.

Earlier in 2012, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, dissolved the Distance Education Council, which was the regulatory body of Distance Education programmes and transferred regulatory functions to the University Grants Commission.

As per the notification released by UGC, “UPDATED LIST OF UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION RECOGNITION TO THE HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS (HEIs) FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2019-20 AND ONWARDS FOR PROGRAMMES THROUGH OPEN & DISTANCE LEARNING MODE On the basis of applications received under UGC (ODL) Regulations, 2017 (Second and Third Amendments) to offer programmes in ODL mode, and in continuation to the earlier UGC notification for academic year 2018-19 and onwards wherein 82 HEIs have been recognized to offer programmes in ODL mode, following programmes of individual HEIs have been recognised for academic year 2019-20, academic session beginning JULY 2019 and onwards.”

 

The Ministry of Human Resource Development in a gazette notification stated that all the degrees that would be awarded through the distance and open learning mode should be given by the universities established by an Act of Parliament of State Legislature, Deemed Universities, Institutes of National Importance are eligible for posts and services under the central government.
