More than fifteen lakh students take CBSE class 10 exams and around ten lakh or more appear in class 12 exams. Central Board of Secondary Education holds board exams for all class 10 students at the same time, and all class 12 students at the same time. Exam dates are announced in the month of January, notifying students and schools of final date sheet. This year also around 2 million students in India are looking forward to the CBSE date sheet 2018. Reports, however, are pointing towards either a delay in the release of date sheets or a slight change in the usual exam dates.
A delay in the release of class 10th and 12th is possible this year. Anxious candidates around the nation are waiting for the exam dates to be announced but the education boards seem to have other plans. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), and some of the state boards are planning to push back the release of date sheet. While some reports suggest CBSE will not postpone exams, reports on CISCE date sheet are awaited.
Reason behind date sheets being delayed, as per the news reports, is Assembly Polls. In the state of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Karnataka the schedule for polling is yet to be declared. The Boards have made it clear that it will not delay the examination due to polls. However, it will make all the required adjustments to conclude the examination within the specified period of time. Some state board date sheet (timetable) 2018 are already available for class 10 and 12 board exams.
The term of office / house end dates in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Karnataka are March 06, 13, 14, and May 05, 2018. The proposed month for election in Karnataka state is April-May 2018. However, in the remaining three states Assembly Polls are expected to be in February-March 2018. Education boards are waiting for the dates to be announced by Election Commission of India so that board exam date sheets can be finalised upon. Owing to the same reason, Karnataka Examination Authority has decided to conduct Karnataka CET on April 18 and 19, 2018, which is quite early in comparison to the usual duration of the exam.
This is not the first time when due to politics, students have to suffer. Even last year, the date sheet was released 9 days late because of the polls in Goa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, and Uttarakhand. It is appreciable that this year the Boards are adamant not to delay the exam.
Usually, CBSE and CISCE announce the date sheet by the beginning of January. The candidates need not worry or shift their focus from preparation because the delay in the release of date sheet is not going to be extended to an inappropriate time. The class 10th and 12th Board examinations are expected to be conducted in the month of March and in any case, the dates for the exam will be announced by mid of January.
