CBSE Class 10 results out: Delhi’s pass percentage falls sharply by over 13%

CBSE 10th result 2017

The percentage of students in Delhi who cleared this year’s CBSE class 10 exam fell more than 13% over last year, results announced on Saturday showed, possibly because a higher number of correspondence students appeared for the test but failed to clear it.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) officials said another reason for the dip in performance could be its decision not to award extra marks as was done in the past for unusually difficult questions in a subject.

“Even moderation (of marks) was done in a limited way and only for Mathematics. All these factors could be responsible for the dip in overall performance,” one CBSE official said on condition of anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to journalists.

The all-India pass percentage for these exams also registered a fall for the third straight year. In all, 90.95% of students cleared it this year compared to 96.21% last year. However, perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) scores shot up by 22%.

This year also marks the end of a grade-based system of class 10 exams and students will have to revert to an earlier practice of marks-based tests from next year.

Late into Saturday night, many parents complained they were not able to access the results on the CBSE website.
