The Lucknow University has urged the Uttar Pradesh government to consider revamping the B Ed joint entrance examination by introducing a single paper of three hours (180 minutes) duration instead of two papers of three hours each (360 minutes) and do away with negative marking.
These suggestions came at a meeting of the advisory committee of JEE B Ed 2018-20 held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the university’s vice-chancellor SP Singh. The university conducted the B Ed entrance exam for the fourth consecutive year this time.
Lucknow University officials felt a single paper will save the time of candidates who come from far off places to major cities to appear in the entrance test.
“If the duration of the entrance exam is reduced, the administration will have to arrange security and supervise only a single shift instead of two,” said Prof Naveen Khare, state coordinator, JEE B Ed 2018-20.
“There should be 180 multiple choice questions (MCQs) in one paper of 180 minutes. Section A: Total MCQs 90 (General Knowledge 45 MCQs; Language Hindi 23 MCQs and language English 22 MCQs) and Section B: Total MCQs 90 (General Aptitude 45 MCQs; Subject Arts/Commerce/Science/Agriculture, 45 MCQs each),” he added.
The advisory committee also suggested that candidates should be allowed to take away their used question booklets after the written test.
The university also directed B Ed minority colleges affiliated with it to ensure transparency in their admission procedure.
“They will have to upload the list of applicants (against minority quota seats), test process, results and admitted candidates etc on their website. They will also have to send a hard copy to the registrar of the university concerned,” said Prof NK Pandey, spokesperson, Lucknow University.
The advisory committee also directed candidates should have original marksheets at the time of counselling. Self-attested internet marksheet of these candidates are acceptable, if verified by respective principal or registrar, said Prof Khare.
