Uttar Pradesh highest applying state and Karnataka highest applied state for MBA courses

Eastern India processes the lowest amount of applications and has the lowest student interest, owing to states like West Bengal and Jharkhand having a college density of paltry 11 and 8 respectively.

NEW DELHI: Bangalore has topped the chart as the preferred city for MBA applications followed by Pune, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi, comprising the top five cities that are of interest to MBA aspirants, according to a new report by CollegeSearch.

Delving deep into the ever-evolving management education in the country, CollegeSearch said in its report titled- ‘MBA Trends and Analysis 2018’, said the report will be benefit aspirants looking to pursue an MBA in India.

The southern zone is the most popular amongst the students as evidenced by the fact that it has the highest number of MBA students as well as highest MBA Applications owing to states like Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. Incidentally, these are the top states as far as number of total applications is concerned.

Anirudh Motwani, CEO, CollegeSearch said, “Based on a set of more than five million users, including students and professionals, visiting our website, our study seeks to throw light on the current and emerging trends regarding MBA in India. Our report will help bright students going to pursue MBA make an informed choice.”

Out of the total applications processed, the highest proportion belongs to the male gender. Overall, a lower proportion of female candidates enrolled for higher education. Digital Marketing topped the chart, applied largely by females.

As per the results, MBA course interest among age bands is highest in the age range of 21-23. About 30% of the applications from the female category have been from Southern States such as Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Out of all branches, Finance tops the list followed by Human Resources and Marketing. Certified courses and PGDHRM are applied highest by females.

Uttar Pradesh, is the highest applying state for MBA courses followed by Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Karnataka is the highest applied state followed by Andhra Pradesh from the South, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand in the North, Maharashtrain the West followed by West Bengal in the East, last but not the least, by Andaman and Nicobar, a union territory.

This study seeks to examine the mood of the candidates across the country towards MBA in general apart from providing answers to many questions that come to the mind of an aspirant such as the new-age programs vis-a-vis traditional ones, role of demography in shaping the opinion of an aspirant’s choice of institute, background check of an aspirant and most importantly worthiness of the degree as compared with the pay package at the end.
